Bio

I am a design researcher who specializes in creating tools and practices that help people to learn and work together better.

Currently, I am a research associate (postdoc) in the Educational Research group of the Morgridge Institute for Research at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where I lead the design and development of educational video games.

My background is in the learning sciences, computer science, and cognitive science. I draw on those disciplines to create new tools that help users to learn, create, and share, and then I study the social and organizational dynamics of their use.

I received my PhD from Northwestern University in Learning Sciences. While at Northwestern, I was a member of the Information Infrastructure Systems research group (at the University of Chicago) and the Center for Connected Learning and Computer-based Modeling. I studied computer science and cognitive science at UC San Diego, where I was a member of the Distributed Cognition and Human-Computer Interaction Lab.
